Bulletin Boards, Letter of the Week and Word Wall Ideas
Word Wall
Bring some Positive Reinforcement to your classroom by making this easy fish bowl from poster Board and laminating. Add a fishing pole with yarn. When you "catch" a child doing something good like sharing, being kind etc their fish goes into the fish bowl. At the end of the day I get my "basket" of treats and have the children gather around to announce who was caught being good and what they did. Those children receive a "big" round of applause and a special treat from the basket!
Draw a dog on white poster board, color and cut out. On small bones write the children's names (use bone template in templates tab above).
Have the children paint pumpkins and decorate the walls. The back drop is made from blue and green bulletin board paper. I added a bulletin board set from my
local Teaching Store.
We're Wild About Our School
What A great Bulletin Board set for the beginning of the year. I ordered this from Oriental Trading Company for $12.99 and came with the a lot of letters to write anything you want to! I decided on the above. Add a "sky" and "grass" with bulletin board paper!
On the first day of school I take a picture of each child, frame it and create a "We Are Special" Bulletin Board.
Each year I find a creative way to display the "cot list." This serves as a visual to myself and also for subs who will need to know which cot belongs to who. The stars and sheep were cut out from construction paper and the moon was cut out from yellow posterboard. You can find the stars and sheep stencils in the template tab.
Art Center
Clear Dry Erase Easel
I created this board from a crib our center was throwing out! These are the ends of the crib put together by a metal dowel and screws! Children can use the dry erase markers to create masterpieces. I also put their names on a piece of paper and place behind the board for them to trace their names and erase! The possibilities are endless!
Our Future Is So Bright We NeedSunglasses!
Take a photo of each child and glue it on to a small sun. Place the large sun in the middle of a bulletin board and add the mini suns with the childrens pictures around the large sun. Place the words "Our Future is so bright we need sun glasses," above the sun.
Have fun displaying animals made by the children on this Farm Bulletin Board. Make the barn from red construction poster board and add green and blue bulletin board paper for the grass and sky. See templates for animals.
This larger than life fish bowl coincides with our water life theme. It is made from a large piece of white bulletin board paper and colored with crayons and
markers (yes it was time consuming but well worth the kids faces) I added some
colored rocks, castle etc. This is an interactive board as the children create
their own fish in the art center and are then put "in" the bowl!
Create this hive using a piece of white poster board. Draw a hive and color it. Write children's names on small bees and place all around the hive. Place this on your door.
The Behavior Modification Chart is one of my best tools for discipline in the classroom. The Parents are notified in the beginning of the year of the effectiveness of the chart and also reassured that their child is given ample opportunities to modify their behavior. Which simply means that if they are
caught doing something "good" after their worm has been moved then they go back
to the "green" apple. Positive re-enforcement is always used in the
classroom and children are encouraged to use their brain to figure out how to
solve differences with each other.
We always have a word wall up to add new words as we "learn" them. The first words are the children's names then we add throughout the year. Simple words and sometimes more difficult ones go on the wall. We encourage the children to "write the room" by simply walking around the room with a clipboard and paper and copy words they see.
The number Caterpillar begins with the head and we add a number each day. The yellow circles help the children learn to count by 5's! We do this all year and have a celebration on the 100th day of school. This is a great tool for learning to recognize numbers, counting and writing them. The circles are simple to make (I used a plate for the stencil) then added the numbers. (laminate for re-use).

The job chart teaches responsibility and not to mention makes the children feel special.
Making Friends At Preschool
For this Bulletin Board I made the "world" using a piece of white posterboard and coloring it. Place it in the middle of the bulletin board. Connect the bears with the children's names on them. Place the words "Making Friends At Preschool." at the top.
Birthday Displays: Looking for an easy way to display birthdays? Grab some Poster board, border and cupcakes (buy from the teaching store or draw your own) Its easy to do and the best part is after you laminate it you can easily "erase" the names to use for next year! Attach 12 colorful balloons (make from construction paper) with yarn to the clown and you have another easy display.
